With Legion taking on a different progression spectrum, hypothetically we'd need a neutral academy suit (since we choose the racial bits later on).
So while it's not an official design and it's ENTIRELY based on speculation, I figured why not run a little community activity to where players can pitch their ideas for what it should look like and artists could draw up some concepts for the Academy Suit.
The design will be aimed at new players and veterans alike, offering something that looks cool but adhering to traditional New Eden styles. This means that while it can borrow some aspects of the established races, it shouldn't look -too much- like them. Color palette will likely be whites, grays, and blacks to attribute to the neutrality aspect.
Some considerations we'd like to look at when designing this puppy are:
What could make this suit distinctive from the rest?
What type of accessories should it have?
What does it -LOOK- like it would offer on the battlefield that is unique to it?
What in-game NPC corporation would have had their hand in it's design?
Feel free to throw in any of your suggestions on this!

Feel free to throw in any of your suggestions on this! What faction would we be starting with? For example, Valkyrie players are introduced amid the lore of the Guristas, and since Mordu's Legion was the first company to start mass producing the technology, why not have new players start with them? Seeing that the empires does it now that would make 0 sense. The new progression Z has thought up makes 0 sense............
And even if that's your opinion, it has nothing to do with this thread

Yes it does, and read my edit.
Stay within the confines of the thread. Neutral Academy Suit. Not that hard.

Wasn't aware that a fun activity was restricted to making sense in one theory as to the progression of a game that isn't green-lit, doesn't have an alpha build, and largely up in the air as far as design... Set aside all the considerations and just have fun for a second, jeez.

Threw this quick concept together based on the following feedback:

This could be one example.
Will be refining it to make it look a little less scuffed up, more angular, and symmetrical based on current suggestions on Skype

That would actually fit quite well with an NPE based on starting out with Mordu's Legion training and then graduating to move out into New Eden on your own.
Makes a lot more sense than being put into one of the dozens of faction-based NPC Merc corps too. If everyone came from Mordu's Legion as a mercenary and then went on their own path after a while, it follows the lore. I REALLY like the Mordu's Legion bit a lot and plan on keeping it, at least with my concepts =P

So, here's the updated version based on current feedback, although it now leaves us with a bit of a predicament.
Some of the feedback is saying to make it look retrofitted, pieced together (hence the exposed wires and what not) BECAUSE it is an Academy suit.
Then again, others say that it should look a bit more refined because Mordu's Legion uses some of the best technology in the galaxy.
Thoughts?

Jaysyn Larrisen wrote:I think if you went with a neutral party you have a few options. Concord is the obvious one, you could explore using Interbus or perhaps an all new entity. Wouldn't use Mordu or Gurista's....i think they would be way more useful as Pirate Dropsuits (hint hint CPM candidates). Let's say it was Concord for the moment. 1) Recommend we use white base color....and remove that color from the non-academy drop suit color palette -please. You could slap the Concord emblem emblazoned on them similar to Pokey's image. That way it would reinforce that its a training outfit and not front line combat gear. 2) Conceptually...it would take small elements from all the races. Overall it would need a 'lighter' look similar to the Caldari but with Gallente design elements for the plates. Perhaps a very simplified Amarrian styled helmet similar to your drawings earlier, Aeon. For the Minmatar elements....perhaps some of the numerous pouches and components; or maybe some duct tape. I think the drop suit should appeare to be more of a basic assembly of parts than a fully integrated design similar to the Racial Suits. 3) This part will play a bit on my thoughts on the Legion academy experience. You would only wear this "composite" suit for the Academy phase and perhaps introduce the actual Racial starter suits during during the transition between the Academy and Rookie contracts.
IMO, the Mordu's Legion background fits far better. Closed Beta vets started with Mordu's Private Trials, Mordu's Legion is -THE- premier mercenary group, it just makes sense (to me) that they would have a hand in designing a suit that mercenaries could utilize until they're ready to go their separate ways with Mordu's Legion. It's a hell of a lot better than being shoved into a random faction NPC corp
That and having a unified background like the Valkyries do with the Guristas has a lot of merit over the current system where factions randomly donate suits to clone soldiers despite hating them with a passion. Don't see what the empire factions are just handing over precious suits to new clone soldiers with no fear of them being used against them (which is pretty much the entire point).

Neither. Going off the progression system for Legion, the suit would be sort of a "neutral" which isn't necessarily restricted to any specialization. It's a single, modifiable suit.
